There are a number of hikes in Kirtipur that are easily accessed from Kathmandu, including the Champadevi hiking trail. These make for great day hiking options or can be extended to 2-day hikes.

'White House'

Named after the White House Viewpoint Restaurant at the top of the hill, this moderate hike can be completed in half a day. Allow enough time to take in the views and enjoy some refreshments from one of the restaurants at the top.

From the summit, take in the views over Kirtipur, Taudaha Lake, Kathmandu and the Langtang Range.

Champa Devi Hill

Admire the incredible Himalayas from Champa Devi on a clear day. At 2,249m above sea level, Champa Devi is the third highest peak in the Kathmandu Valley. Hikers can be rewarded with views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang among others from the summit. There’s a chance you might even get a glimpse of Mt Everest.

The hike up Champa Devi Hill is somewhat challenging and can be completed as an out-and-back hike or a circuit. Allow a day for the return trip.

Champa Devi extensions

There are several options for Champa Devi hiking:

  • Start in Kirtipur and continue to Haatiban Resort (or vice versa). While you’re there, visit some of the nearby monasteries in Dakshinkali.
  • Start in Kirtipur and continue to Chandragiri. From there, you can choose to take the many stairs down, or relax and enjoy a 10-15 minute ride in the cable car.
  • For an easier option, ride up the cable car at Chandragiri before continuing to Champa Devi and down to Kirtipur.
